Health, Fitness, and Second Chances

health, fitness, and second chances

It occurred to me this morning, that I have been talking about my story and journey all over social media, but have neglected to share here on my blog. My health and wellness have undergone a tremendous makeover in the last 2 years. Two years ago, I took a chance on myself. I was exhausted. I had 18-month-old twins. I ate so poorly. I could eat an entire package of Oreos in 2 sittings. The amount of sugar that I was consuming was ridiculous. I wasn’t overweight. In fact, I was in my 120s but I was also breastfeeding my twins so that burned a huge amount of calories.

I was fed up with being grumpy and sleepy. I decided to try something I had never done before. I worked out in the past. I was an athlete, but I hadn’t done anything in so long. I was 32 and determined to make my 30s freaking awesome. I had been skeptical that anything would get me in the shape I wanted to be in, but I gave it a shot.

I began fueling my body and working out consistently 5 days a week for 30 minutes a day. I went all in and WOW! I couldn’t believe that at 32, I was in the BEST shape of my life.

Once I became pregnant with my youngest, I said that I would have a fit and healthy pregnancy. I had already been sharing my journey for a year at that point, so I wanted to continue to do that. Well, my fitness became non-existent and I felt like such a phony. I disappeared and hid. When I decided after she was born to get back to my journey, I let fear take over. Who would take me seriously? I just “fell off the wagon”. How can I help other women if I was so inconsistent the last 10 months?

Second Chances

Fear is a funny thing. I began to work with a mindset coach shortly after M was born. She helped me learn to change my thought processes and mindset. Today, I refuse to let fear take control. I KNOW I can help other women because I’ve been there.

I know what it’s like to be unhappy with my appearance, to be self-conscious, to have low self-esteem, to be anxious. I know what it’s like to feel alone in my journey like no one understands how I feel.

I also know what it’s like to find other women who understand me and support me. I know what it’s like to feel encouraged and loved on and appreciated. I know what it’s like to help women discover that they too can take control of their health, fitness, and mind.

I know the steps it takes to accomplish all of these things. That’s why I decided to become a health and fitness coach as well as accountability coach. I know everyone has different goals and I know that if you work hard, you can accomplish anything!

How to Empower Yourself NOW!

How to Empower Yourself now

Do you want to make a difference in the world? Do you want to start making changes for the better? The problem is that a lot of people have these goals but they don’t feel as though they can accomplish them because they aren’t smart enough, good-looking enough or even confident enough. This is never the case, and it’s important to know that you absolutely do have the power to get out there and change the world- and by following these tips, you will be able to achieve your dreams faster and easier than ever before. Find out how to empower yourself NOW!

Stay Open to Possibilities

You really do have the power inside you to believe that anything is possible. The more you open yourself up to responsibility and possibility, the more creative you will become. Eventually, you will craft a world where you can succeed and where you can do anything.

A lot of people have an attitude that is angry or even defeated. It’s important to know that if you have a negative mindset then this will ultimately cause you to have a closed mindset. If you want a better outcome then you need to push yourself and always try and be better. If you want some inspiration, consider looking up women in public leadership.

When you stay open to new possibilities, you will find yourself doing things you never thought possible. Stepping out of your comfort zone is vital!

Know Who You Are

Things are going to happen that you either don’t like or don’t agree with. You will encounter a lot on your journey, and for this reason, you need to focus mentally on who you want to be and how you deal with these challenges. You need to focus on you, and you also need to work quietly while letting your success do the talking.

Don’t Compare Yourself

Just because another person is successful, that doesn’t mean that you are a failure. You need to run your own life and stop worrying about your “competition”. Focus on what is right in front of you and remember that life is not a competition.

Sure, there will be people who achieve success faster than you do and there will even be people who start after you do and go on to achieve their dreams within the year, but that doesn’t mean that you are not trying hard enough or slacking. It’s just life, so don’t compare yourself to others and don’t get down about the things that are happening around you.

Success is different for everyone, and one day you may wake up and realize that you have achieved everything that you have ever wanted.

How to Empower Yourself NOW!

So in order to be happy and successful, you really do need to focus on yourself and you also need to try and prove to others that you are capable of anything. This is more than possible for you to do, and you absolutely can do anything you set your mind to. When you know how to empower yourself, you can accomplish anything!

Six Ways To Be Healthier Every Day

6 ways to be healthier every day

There isn’t one person out there in the world that looks at their life and decides a life of unhealthy behavior is a good thing. Sure, it is absolutely fun to live without restriction on your diet, never exercise and spend weekends binge drinking with friends. The thing is, you may be having fun living your life like that, but your body sure isn’t, so you need to figure out ways to be healthier!

We have to make conscious lifestyle changes the older we get so that we can enjoy our lives and our families a little bit longer. All the drinking and the experimenting and the eating beige food will eventually catch up with you. You can’t maintain a lifestyle of sabotage for your body when your body needs certain behaviors for you to be able to live and keep illness at bay. It all starts with making the small changes, such as seeking the help of a sober living community to be able to lay off the binge drinking. It also means educating yourself about fruit and vegetables and healthy cooking so that you can eat better and therefore be much more energized. So, what steps can you take to live a healthier lifestyle every day?

What Can You Do to Live a Healthier Lifestyle?

  1.   Recognizing that change is needed is the first big step that you must take for a healthier lifestyle. You need to notice how the way you eat and your lack of working out are affecting your body and you need to ask yourself whether a change would benefit you at all. Mindset is key.
  2.   The choice that you make to change your life isn’t going to be easy because your brain is automatically going to throw up barriers. It’ll tell you that you can’t do it, you have no willpower, etc. The key is to ignore those barriers and plow on ahead anyway.
  3.   Write down what your healthy lifestyle goals are. It’s not always about losing weight. Sometimes, you just need to shake things up so that you’re drinking more water or walking more. However, if you write it down you’re more likely to stick to it.
  4.   You’ve written it down so it’s time to take action. Get off the bus earlier and walk further to work. Swap binge drinking for the gym or CrossFit. You can still find ways to be social without abusing your body.
  5.   The best part about changing your life is the reward that you can give yourself. Whether this is in the form of a spa day or a new outfit for a day out, you need something to be excited about and look forward to.
  6.   Expect to relapse. A part of changing your lifestyle is accepting that you won’t be on your plan every minute of the day. Expect it, accept it, forgive it and move on.

Hungary

Is Hungary not at the top of your list of places to visit? Maybe you should reconsider. It’s certainly a great place to go if you want to have a detox. Why? Because it’s capital – Budapest – has actually been given the title ‘City of Spas’ for quite some time. This is because it’s home to loads of natural thermal and medicinal water springs that are used to create luxurious spas.

You can learn more about the history behind this on www.budapest.com if you’re interested in it. However, all you really need to know is that there is no shortage of amazing health & wellness spas in this great city. If you’re looking for a relaxing break away from home, then this is definitely somewhere you should think about going for a few days.

India

India is a country that’s synonymous with ancient healing practices and mindfulness. There are loads of places you can go here, but a trip to the Nilgiris District in Tamil Nadu is probably the best option. This is because there’s a clinic here, which you can see only at MountainTopClinic.com, and it gives you everything you need to detox and feel healthy.

You get to try out different traditional healing methods and use natural ways of cleansing your body and mind. It’s a very interesting experience, and definitely not something you’ll get to see anywhere else in the world. If you want to enjoy a mindful journey towards natural self-healing and detoxification, then add India to your travel plans.

Greece

Greece has a ton of different options if you’re looking for somewhere to relax. Head there and let all your stress melt away. Amongst all the beautiful islands is a little place called Mykonos. This is a popular tourist destination, but it’s also home to loads of remote and private beaches, along with some luxury hotels that offer spa treatments.

It’s such a great place to go if you want to just forget about your troubles. Sit back and enjoy life on the beach sipping a cocktail. Plus, it’s really good if you want to get a lot of walking in as well – you can easily notch up thousands of steps per day, keeping you in good shape while you relax.

Plan Your Detox Trip

All of these destinations offer something a little bit different. From the natural medicinal spas in Hungary to the mountaintop clinic in India, and the gorgeous, relaxing beaches in Greece. Choosing to go to any of these destinations will be so beneficial.  Are your body and mind are screaming out for a break from your hectic life?  You may need a detox vacay.

I had the pleasure of “meeting” Brittany last fall. We actually met at Starbucks. It turned out that she knows my father in law (like everyone else here in Evansville, IN).

She was offering some free life and mindset coaching to a small group of people. I knew nothing about life coaching and thought “what the heck? I want in!”

Game changer.

Brittany has a gift of connecting with women (and kids). She has a vulnerability and rawness about her that I just love. I knew right away before I had even thought about doing this Mom Boss series, that I wanted to interview her.

So without further ado, meet Brittany Deer.

What made you decide to start your business?

My why.

My husband and I had hit our rock bottom in life a couple years ago. House was in foreclosure, dealing with a child with mental illness, we were about to get divorced and our two boys were suffering from having parents that were never fully there. Mentally and physically.

So I hired a life and mindset coach and started to do the work.

The mind work.

Investing in my thoughts and checking in with myself to see what types of actions I was taking and then what kind of results I was getting from those thoughts.

Learning what childhood beliefs didn’t support the life I wanted and shifting them.

Starting out I did this work with the most basic life tasks, like getting out of bed not feeling overwhelmed and started to see massive transformation. From there my goals started getting larger and larger leading more towards my dream life. The life I always dreamed about but was so far fetched.

After doing the work and still doing the work I knew this was my purpose in life. To share my story and guide women and children to find their own inner power to want something better for themselves and their families!

How do you juggle it all?

What is not on the schedule doesn’t get done. If it’s a priority, it gets put on the schedule. And we sometimes have to be willing to not get things done in order to get to our priorities.

An example is time with my husband. It is a priority, like top notch priority. Families that have children, their spouse is always the last one to get the time. So I literally have “husband time” on my shared calendar with Tyler.

How did you meet your husband?

We met on the good ole Ohio River.

Living near the river, in my younger days I often had friends who had boats and we would spend the weekends out on the water. Memorial Day weekend was always a big one and he was with a friend of a friend on the same boat I was going on.

What is the funniest thing that happened to you recently?

Oh, geez. I’m clumsy. Honestly, I can’t even remember anything because clumsy is just part of who I am.

What is that one song that always makes you happy? What’s your jam?

Oh my!! I LOOOVE music! My family always has music on. One song that makes me happy though for many many years is Who am I by Casting Crowns. It’s not a up beat song but it reminds me every single time I hear it that life isn’t about what I have done but what God has done for me. And not about who I am but about who He is.

If they made a movie of your life, who would play you?

Either Faith Hill or Kathie Lee Gifford.

Here’s a totally unfair question…If you had to choose between wine or coffee for the rest of your life, which would you choose?

I would totally choose coffee. Totally! {Did I mention, we met at Starbucks?}

When I became a mom, I wish someone would have told me….

Honestly, I have a great support system. So I received, and still receive, lots of advice. I truly believe that doing it the way that works for you will teach you the best lessons in life.

I want my sons to know…

That they are so loved beyond words. They have a God that loves them more than anyone and is with them always. They have parents that will support and love them always.

The last book I read was…

I’m currently reading Sole Survivor by Holly Dunn Pendleton.

Three things I can’t live without…

  • Coffee(Starbucks)
  • Sunshine
  • My Jesus calling book

Describe your perfect day…

Wake up, read my daily devotional, get my kiddos on the bus, work on my business, go to the gym, come back home, work in my robe or gym clothes, get my kiddos off the bus, from 4pm-7pm spend time with my kids (baseball field, basketball court, boys scouts, wrestling, homework), have dinner at our kitchen table together, spend an hour or so with my husband talking about our day, sit in bed watch TV or read until 8:30-9pm, go to bed.

If you could give 18 year old you one piece of advice, what would it be?

Do whatever scares you. Always.

What advice do you have for moms who want to start their own business?

If you are being called to start a business or a side gig. Don’t sit and think about all the what ifs because your mind will eventually talk you out of going after it.

Think about THE WORST thing that could happen if you do start your own business. If you don’t think about physically or literally dying then you should do it.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

The work is never done.

Mind work is part of self care and self love.

We have 50,000+ thoughts per day. We often don’t notice our own thoughts, the power of them, and the results we are getting from them.

Coaching can create some simply shifts to change your entire life and the world around you!
