If you suffer from seasonal allergies, you probably know all the symptoms very well by now. Sneezing, runny nose, and itchy eyes are all part of allergy season for many people.

Allergy symptoms can cause chronic illnesses such as asthma and sinusitis to flare up. This is why it’s important to understand how to keep yourself as safe as possible during this season.

Here are some things you need to keep in mind to reduce symptoms during allergy season, so you can start recovering from chronic sinusitis and asthma.

Control Pollen

Controlling pollen is essential if you want to minimize your triggers. A great way to reduce pollen is to close your windows and doors as much as possible during this time. This will help to keep pollen out of your home.

It’s important that you identify whether or not you are having allergies or you are reacting to the weather. Many people will have a cold during the colder months of the year. It can often be difficult to tell whether or not you have a cold or you have allergies.

The best thing you can do is to see if your symptoms occur by being around specific triggers. If you notice that, then it’s probably not a cold but an allergy reaction.

Stay Inside

Try to stay indoors as much as possible on days when it’s extremely windy outside. This is a time when pollen will be flying all through the air and you have a greater chance of having allergic reactions. If you suffer from a lung disease such as asthma staying in as much as you can is especially important.

If you love the outdoors, rainy days are great for allergies. Going outside after the rain holds up is a good idea as the rain will remove pollen from the air.

Use the Right Over the Counter Medications

Taking over-the-counter medications is also a great way to control and reduce your allergy symptoms. Over-the-counter medications that contain antihistamines are very effective in relieving symptoms such as itchy eyes and runny nose.

Over-the-counter medications are often very effective but they do come with side effects. Many people feel drowsy from using them. This can make it difficult for them to take them during the daytime.

If you take prescription medication for your allergies, it’s a good idea to start taking these medications before the allergy season. Taking the medication before the allergy season begins gives it a chance to circulate through your system

Your body will be primed and ready to be protected during the season.

Saline Rinse

If you’re a fan of natural remedies then saline rinses are just right for you. You can use a saline solution as a nasal spray or put it in a neti pot.

The great thing about saline is that it is not just great for your nasal passages, you can also gargle with the solution of salt and water two times per day to help remove any inflammation that you may be feeling in your throat.

Clean Up

When you spend time outside, it’s a good idea to clean up as soon as you come in. Be sure to change your clothes and place them in the washer immediately. You should also take a shower to make sure that you remove all pollen from your skin and hair.

By doing this, you will prevent pollen from spreading through your home. It’s a good idea to shower at night right after you come in, even if you have showered before. This will ensure that you keep pollen out of your bed.

Letting pollen get into your bed can be detrimental and it can keep you from having allergic reactions throughout the night which will prevent sleep.

Wear a Mask

It became popular during the pandemic to wear a mask.

However, even though many people have stopped wearing masks, if you suffer from seasonal allergies it’s a good idea to wear one.

The best masks are N95 masks; this means that they filter out 95 percent of particles present in the air.

With this kind of protection, there’s no need to stay away from the outdoors too much. You will be protected.

Allergy Proof Your Pets

Many times when allergies start to flare in humans it’s because of their pets. When you take your pets outside during pollen season it’s a great idea to wipe off their paws and brush out their coat before they enter your home. Pets may unwittingly bring pollen into your home.

This can flare up your allergies if you are not careful. It may be best to keep your pets indoors a bit more during allergy season.

Keep Mold Out Of Your Home

Try to keep mold out of your house as much as possible. Mold can be very triggering and dangerous at the same time.

Making sure that standing in your bathroom or shower is cleaned up. Many people find it helpful to use a ventilation fan when they are using their shower. This is a great way to help reduce mold and prevent it from growing.

Get Allergy Free

Staying allergy free during the height of allergy season is very possible. You need to make sure that you take the time to learn as much as possible about your allergies.

You should take the time to ensure that you are doing everything possible to get your allergies under control. This includes getting on the right medication if you can, and controlling how pollen gets into your home.

By taking control of the situation sooner rather than later, you will have a greater chance of controlling your allergies, throughout the season.
