How to Prioritize Self Care in Your Life

If you’ve been feeling rundown or overwhelmed recently, it’s time to focus on yourself and increase your wellbeing levels. Most people stretch themselves too thin and end up tired and frustrated; that’s why it’s so important to make time in your day for some dedicated self-care.   

Dedicated Self Time 

A lot of people think that time for self-care is self-indulgent; if they are not earning a living or working in the service of others, they are not using their time effectively. But not making time for yourself in your life leads to a reduction in your happiness and wellbeing and your productivity. 

Whether you have a full hour to yourself in the day or simply fifteen minutes, make sure you are using the time to focus entirely on yourself. Think of it like recharging your battery so you can be more effective in the world; your phone needs charged on a daily basis, and so does wellbeing.     

Self Kindness 

It’s easy to get caught up in the world of comparison; your friends might seem to have more than you or be happier than you, so you form a mindset that chases what others have. This might lead to some success, but chances are you won’t be fully satisfied. It’s better to know yourself. 

Start with self-kindness and understanding that your life path is different from the life path of others, and in that sense, it’s unique. Spend some time getting to know yourself on the inside, free from the constraints of society and the expectations of others. Write down five life goals.  

Understanding

The other issue is the levels of comparison on social media; people always present the best version of themselves, which may not always align with reality; this means you are comparing yourself to unrealistic versions of others. The solution is to put yourself on digital downtime.   

Proper Sleep 

Sleep is sometimes underrated, but it shouldn’t be underestimated. We need healthy diets to live our best lives, but without adequate sleep, we can’t function properly in the world, and it can lead to health issues such as low mood, anxiety, and problems with concentration when at work. 

Unfortunately, many people suffer the effects of poor sleep patterns due to issues with insomnia or light sleeping. You could also try exercising during the day, but not in the evening.    

Treat Yourself 

If you want to prioritize self-care in your life, it’s time to start thinking of yourself as a friend. If you had a friend in your life who was feeling unwell or needed some support, what would you do for them? Would you take them out for a coffee and a chat, run them a bath, or watch a film together? 

Even if you’re on your own, you can still treat yourself like a friend and make sure you get the support you need to increase your happiness and wellbeing. If you don’t have a support network, think about reaching out to volunteer helplines who are always willing to connect with you.
