Happy Monday! I’m pretty excited, to say the least, about a blog series I am adding to Nau & Forever! This series is all about Mom Bosses!
I am inspired daily by some incredible women.
I truly believe that if you want to be successful, you MUST surround yourself with successful people. Empowering and inspiring women is my passion.
Periodically, I am going to share an interview that I do with an inspiring Mom Boss.
All of these women are different. Different lives, different jobs, different backgrounds, but all INCREDIBLE and INSPIRING!
My first Inspiring Mom Boss is Rachel Heavrin.
Rachel is from the same small town in Kentucky as I am. She is a wife and fellow girl mom to 3 beautiful little girls. What I love about Rachel is her realness. Ya’ll! She is a hoot! A self described hot mess, Rachel keeps it real and she’s so genuine. Totally one of those “will you be my best friend?” kind of gals!
She is the owner of Stitches N Giggles Boutique.
What made you decide to start Stitches N Giggles?
How do you juggle it all?
HA! I don’t. Motherhood is hard. I don’t care if you’re a stay at home mom, a part time working Mom, or a full time working mom, it’s so hard.
I’ve been all three. They all have their struggles. My family comes first and everything falls into place after that.
How did you meet your husband?
What is the funniest thing that has happened to you recently?
I’m that hot mess mom. Hi! That’s definitely me. I never pack a lunch for my school aged daughter. She was going on a field trip, so my unprepared self was required to pack a lunch for the field trip. The teacher texts me around lunch time asking if Presley was supposed to be eating the frozen package of hot dogs I put in her lunch box. Ummmmmm. No. That’s her ice pack because I couldn’t find an ice pack. My 6 year old was gnawing down on some frozen hot dogs on her field trip. MOM FAIL.
What is the one song that always makes you happy? What’s your jam?
Right now, anything Bruno Mars. I have a pretty wide variety of musical interests. I can go from Lil Jon’s “Get Low” to Mercy Me’s “I Can Only Imagine”.
If they made a movie of your life, who would play Rachel?
I’m going to say Melissa McCarthy. She seems to be a hot mess in most of her movies with a pretty good outlook on life.
If you had to choose wine or coffee for the rest of your life, which would you choose?
Definitely wine. Don’t riot. I’m not a coffee drinker. I. Know. I’m not a huge drinker of either.
When I became a Mom, I wish someone would have told me…
About the emotional stuff. It seems that when you’re pregnant that everyone wants to give you their opinions on your body or tell you their horror labor stories. I didn’t find out the gender with 2 out of 3 of my daughters. I don’t know if people thought that gave them permission to critique my body, but holy cow. Ohhhhhh you’re butt is wide. That means girl. You’re nose is spreading, must be a boy! Are you sure there aren’t twins in there? Um. Yes.
I wish someone would have prepared me for the reality of a child. Not scare me or judge me. I worked a public job up until I had my first daughter. Very fast paced and constant travel.
After having her my life absolutely halted. I suffered from postpartum depression after having her. Just the stresses of having a new baby, hormones, and going from traveling to sitting still. It took a while to get in the swing of things, but we made it through. Talk to someone and loved ones need to be sure to recognize the red flags.
I want my daughters to know…
The last book I read was…
Three things that I can’t live without:
- My Plum Planner.
- My phone. (I know)-this is a big struggle for me. Everything business related is online. I try to leave it alone at night for family time. It’s hard guys. I have a love/ hate relationship with my phone.
- My bathtub. This is my stress reliever. I don’t take a bath unless i just need to melt the stress away with the scalding water. My husband knows if I start my bath water that he best have control of the kids. That’s my time. Our water bill varies based upon my level of stress.
Describe your perfect day.
Oh this is hard. Like an imaginary perfect day or reality perfect day? In reality, a perfect day for me is no fighting among the kids, me not losing my patience with them, and we enjoy a day outside as a family. This is rare. I don’t enjoy outdoor weather unless it’s at least 75 degrees. Haha!
An imaginary perfect day is being on time everywhere we go and completed laundry. As rare as a pink glittering unicorn.
If you could give 18 year old Rachel one piece of advice, what would it be?
Stand up for yourself and don’t let anyone push you around. You are inferior to no one. Everyone puts their pants on one leg at a time just like you. (I’m still struggling with this one.)
What advice do you have for moms who want to start their own business?
Do it! Life is too short to wonder ‘what if’. Do it. Take the leap. The worst you can do is fail. So what if you do? At least you tried. Be that girl boss!
