3 Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your Time

Image via Pixabay

Time is seriously valuable. In fact, it’s one of the most valuable of all “resources” that exist in the entire world. If you don’t have much money today, you may be able to earn and save up a significant amount tomorrow. But you only ever have 24 hours in a day, and who knows how much time over the course of your entire life.

People don’t usually like to think of their own mortality – but the harsh reality is that none of us is on this earth forever, and so it’s a really good idea to use our time as wisely as possible, rather than allowing any of it to go to waste.

Easier said than done, right? Well, here are a few tips for getting the most out of your time.

Do Your Research & Planning in Advance

Whatever it is you’re doing in life – whether you’re trying to run your own business, or are trying to get fit, or get your house in order – it’s a really good idea to do your research and planning in advance.

A lot of time often gets wasted, because we don’t do our due diligence before involving ourselves in different pastimes, or making certain commitments.

This applies even in terms of buying consumer goods. By looking up reviews on a site such as TriStar products review, for example, you are less likely to find yourself shopping around endlessly for the one product that does what you want it to, and having to return goods every couple of days.

Likewise, if you’re going on vacation, planning out your itinerary in advance allows you to spend all your time at the destination actually having adventures, instead of sitting around and racking your brains trying to figure out what to do.

Listen to Your Own Conscience

Our consciences need to be developed with a bit of practice, but all of us have some kind of innate sense of when we are acting “well” or “badly.”
When you’re trying to figure out if you’re using your time as well as you possibly can, it often pays to listen to your own conscience. How do you “feel” deep down, while you’re doing what you’re doing?

If a significant part of yourself feels like you’re wasting your time – you probably are. Try doing things that make you feel proud, instead.

Reduce Distraction

We all tend to follow the path of least resistance, over the course of our day-to-day lives. At least, to a pretty significant degree.

If you make distraction and procrastination extremely easy, like keeping your phone nearby so you can constantly scroll Instagram, expect to spend more of your time procrastinating.

Instead, try to make it significantly harder to actually engage in distracting activities, and significantly easier to engage in positive and productive activity. In the Internet age, using web blockers is often a good way of starting to reduce distraction.

If you’re struggling to manage your time so you can accomplish your goals, life coaching may be for you. Check out the ways we can work together.

Is Your Workplace Making You Sick?

Is Your Workplace Making You Sick_

If you would like to become healthier and make the most out of your life, you have to start paying attention to the environment you are working in. No matter if you work in a home office or at a physical office space, it’s crucial that you protect yourself from harm. Below you will find a few areas to focus on when completing your workplace assessment.

Stress

We all face stress every now and then. If change is not managed well at the workplace, this can cause professional burnout and affect your mental health. You will develop mental health conditions and anxiety that will affect your productivity. Sometimes we need to take time off work to reduce stress and reflect on our situation. Try meditation and mindfulness exercises to look after your mental health better.

Lower Back Injury

If you sit in front of the computer most of the time, it is important that you prevent lower back strain and pain. You will need to ask for workplace adjustments if you are working for a company, or take responsibility for your own health if you are managing your own business from home. You can get foot rests and back cushions that will reduce the pressure on your lower back and feet.

Vision

Staring at the screen all day might put a lot of strain on your vision. You might not notice the changes until one of your friends points out that you squint when reading from the screen, you will also have to make the most out of the natural light and avoid reflection that can stress out your nerves and cause you migraine coming from eye strain.

Hearing

If you work in a noisy environment, or wear headphones when calling clients or answering the phone, you should get regular hearing assessments. If your employer is not providing this, you can still go out on your own; your health insurance is likely to cover the preventive test. Not to mention that the sooner you find out about the problem the better your chances of solving it will be. You can learn more about different interventions and hearing aids.

Respiratory Conditions

The air quality in the office can also impact your respiratory health. Do you work with hazardous or toxic materials, irritants or cleaning agents? It’s important that you get an air filtration system or an air purifier installed. Opening doors and windows regularly will help; but you have to monitor your health, especially if you have asthma or respiratory illnesses and allergies. Make sure that your air vents and ducts are regularly cleaned, too.

Is Your Work Making You Sick?

Is work making you sick? There are plenty of health risks that are invisible in your office space. You can make the most of your productivity and protect yourself. Focus on the environment you spend long hours every weekday. Make improvements and you can avoid long term harm and conditions that are hard to reverse.

How to Help Your Aging Parents Live Comfortably

How to Help Your Aging Parents Live Comfortably

Growing up has many fantastic benefits. It’s a chance for you to become completely independent and stand on your own two feet. Not only that, though, but you will be able to start a family of your own and experience the joy of having children. Of course, you still need to know how to help your aging parents. As they get older and enter their senior years, you might need to start looking after them or thinking about any additional treatment and care that they might require.

Many families struggle when parents start to age and they need constant care and attention. But it shouldn’t put too much strain on your family as a whole, though. In fact, if you use these next few tips, then making sure your elderly parents enjoy a comfortable life shouldn’t be too difficult for you.

Be Open With The Whole Family

First of all, it’s necessary to talk to your whole family about this. In fact, you might want to hold a family meeting so that you can discuss this as one big group. Make sure all your siblings are there so that they each get their say and you can all split up responsibilities. Your parents should also be present at these meetings so that they can have their say as well. After all, it’s their health and well-being that you will be discussing and I’m sure they will have a few opinions and ideas!

Consider Exactly How Much Care They Need

You need to think carefully about how much care your parents need now that they are older. It could be worth discussing this with their doctor, especially if they have any long-term health conditions or other specific healthcare needs. Some people require around-the-clock care when they get older, and might need to move into an assisted care home, for instance. If this sounds like something your parents might benefit from, you should start finding a care facility for them before it’s too late. Their needs might be too big for you to care for them at home.

Be Honest When It Comes To Budget

Your family will have to carefully calculate how much you can afford to spend on your parents’ care and treatment. Unfortunately, some care options can be very expensive and you might be unable to afford them without any financial help. It’s a good idea to check with your local government to see if your parents are eligible for financial relief or benefits if you think you will struggle to keep up with care costs.

Start Planning Early On

Make sure that you don’t leave it too late to start planning any care for your parents. It’s best to set some plans in place early on so that you aren’t rushing about when it is too late. This will also give you the chance to save up if need be.

Help Your Aging Parents

It’s not something you want to think about, but it’s important to know how to help your aging parents. You want to be prepared when the time comes to provide them with the best care possible. They helped you, so it’s time to return the favor.

How to Make Your Home Feel Way More Secure

How to Make your Home Feel Way More Secure

If you want to feel like you’re living in a secure home then you are certainly not alone. So many people are worried about criminals breaking into their property and this can make it hard to feel safe. If you want to get around this or if you want to make your home feel much more secure then there are a few things that you can do about this.

Secure the Doors

Did you know that 34% of burglars stroll right in through the front door? For this reason, you have to make sure that you really secure your doors as much as possible. You need to inspect your exterior doors and you also need to make sure that your door frames are strong as well. The hinges should be protected, and if your door has a mail slot, you have to make sure that someone can’t reach through it in order to unlock the door. You might also want to install a deadbolt and look into a strike plate.

Glass Doors

If you have glass doors then you may want to take some extra steps for a secure home. Reinforcing your glass doors is very easy to do. You can go old-school and use a window bar, or you can even use a dowel in the track to try and stop the door from being forced open. If you want to get a high-tech solution, then consider adding a door sensor or even a glass break sensor. This will alert you if the glass door has been tampered with and it will also scare off any thieves at the same time. It doesn’t take long to do this, but it could help to stop your home from being broken into.

How to Make your Home Feel Way More Secure

Windows

Windows are also a very popular entry point for burglars. Standard latches are usually not effective at all. Sometimes they can even be flimsy, and this is the last thing you need when you are trying to secure your home. If you want to get around this then you need to try and improve them by having some key-operated levers or even some upgraded locks in general. You don’t have to stop there either because you can also have some window security film installed or even window bars. A lot of people also like to have prickly bushes outside their first-floor windows as well, as this will help to deter anyone from looking in for the near future.

Landscape

Vandals, burglars, and various other criminals really don’t like to be in the spotlight. For a more secure home, you need to try and keep intruders at bay by having some high-quality lights outside your front door. If you want to make the most out of your lights then it helps to get ones that are motion activated. You can even get solar powered lights as well if you don’t want to spend too much money on their operation. This will really help you to make the most out of your security and it will also help you to deter criminals as well.

Garage

This entry point is becoming even more popular with criminals as time goes on. If they can’t access your home then they may think that they can find whatever they need in the garage. If you want to try and protect yourself then you may want to keep your garage door opener in the house. This way a burglar can’t use it to break in. You might also want to look into a smart garage door opener as well. if you have windows then these need to be covered up and you may also want to get some high-quality garage door locks too. Home automation means that you will never have to worry about leaving the garage door open again, so this is a very important point that you need to keep in consideration.

Security System

Your home should have some form of security system. It doesn’t even matter whether it is a basic DIY system either, as long as you have something. In this day and age, there really are so many security options for you to choose from. They will suit every budget and they will also suit every level of protection as well. If you want to choose a system that you are comfortable with then you may want to chat with a security expert, as they will be able to help you with absolutely anything you need.

Smoke and Carbon Monoxide

Believe it or not, keeping your home secure is not just about preventing burglars. You also have to think about how you are going to keep your family safe from the items within your home as well. Sometimes a boiler can go wrong, gas can leak into your home and various other hazards. If you want to stop all of this from becoming a problem then it is so important that you have a fire alarm installed. You also need to make sure that you have a carbon monoxide detector as well. When you have one of these, you can then feel confident knowing that everything is in order and that you and your family are completely protected. Learn more about that here.

Be Discreet

If you know that you are going away, then it is so important that you are discreet about this so you can keep a secure home. You have to make sure that you don’t tell anyone and that you also don’t make it obvious. If you have a lot of mail coming while you are away, then it may be worth getting it redirected. This is especially the case if you are going away for a long period of time.

If you have flyers continually posted through the door then you may want to ask your neighbor to get rid of them for you. When you do this, you can then feel confident knowing that you are not making it obvious that you are away. If you want to step things up to that next level then you might want to invest in a home automation solution as well. This can really help you to deter any criminals and keep a secure home.

A Secure Home for Your Family

You want a secure home for your family. Following these steps can help you feel more confident that you and your family are protected.

How To Pay Off An Unexpected Bill

How To Pay Off An Unexpected Bill

It seems like bills are difficult to manage at the best of times, but when an unexpected one drops in the mailbox? That takes it to another level entirely. Suddenly, you’re wondering how you’ll be able to pay the expense and also afford to pay rent, buy food, and meet the costs of your other bills. But before you get too panicked about money, it’s important to remember that you do have options, even if it doesn’t instantly feel like it. Below, we take a look at some ways you can find the money to pay off an unwelcome surprise expense, be it a bill, broken boiler or car, or anything else that looks like it might leave you out of pocket.

Dip Into Savings

You don’t want to dip into your savings, but it may be necessary. There can be serious consequences from leaving bills unpaid, and if taking some money out of your savings is your only option, then you won’t have much of a choice. Hopefully, the bill won’t be too high, and you’ll be able to top up the account pretty quickly once its paid. It’s for reasons like this why experts recommend you have two savings accounts; one that is for actual savings, and one that is for emergency expenses.

Use Credit Card

It’s a bad idea to rely on your credit card for all of your expenses, but an emergency? That’s what they’re there for. Put the charge on your credit card. BUT make sure that you’ve paid off the balance by the time the next statement rolls around.

Make Some Extra Cash

You might think that all your money is accounted for, but this is rarely the case. It’s just your money is tied up in other things. If you have a smartphone, car, or home, then you’re worth more than what’s in your bank balance. If you have a bill that looks insurmountable, don’t go into crisis mode. Instead, think “I need to sell my phone for cash today.” The money that you raise might be enough to make the bill disappear! The same can be said for your car. While no-one wants to sell their car, if it’s that or financial difficulties, then it’s the right choice to make.

Tighten Your Belt

If you have a couple of weeks to pay the bill, then pause all spending. It’s amazing how much you can save in a matter of weeks just by living a Spartan life. Cut out all but the essential purchases, eat cheap meals, and your bank balance will barely drop.

Try to Haggle

Finally, remember the art of haggling. There’s a chance you can get the bill reduced, or can have the payment spread over a longer period. Many companies are receptive to this type of arrangement, even knocking some money off the amount. In any case, if you don’t ask, then you don’t get. They can only say no!

Pay Off an Unexpected Bill Quickly

The quicker you can pay off the bill, the better. If you don’t have an emergency fund for such situations, you may have to hustle or haggle to take care of the bill. Once it’s paid, you can move on. Then you can create a rainy day fund to eliminate the fear and overwhelm if an unexpected bill pops up again.

Planning a Big (or Small) Move? Sam’s Club and 3M Can Help!

`planning a move?

Are you planning a big move in the coming year? You’re definitely not alone. Did you know that 35.5 million Americans move each year? Whether it’s across town or across the country, it’s best to be as prepared as possible to help you stay sane through the move. (Stay tuned for how Sam’s Club can help with that move!)

My Favorite Moving Tip

When I was in college, I moved every year. It was pretty crazy. Dealing with all the cleaning, the packing, the unpacking, etc., it seemed that it took forever. A tip I learned when it came to packing all my clothes was pretty life-changing.

Instead of taking all the clothes out of your closet and off the hangers, keep them on the hangers. Then take a clean garbage bag and bundle several items together. Put them in the garbage bag and then tie at the top around the neck of the hangers. BOOM! Saves a ton of time!

Sam’s Club and Moving

It’s no surprise that I love Sam’s Club. I’ve told you in the past how awesome it is for everyone, especially new moms. It’s also great for people who have just moved. Think of the convenience of one-stop shopping to stock up your new home with all the essentials?

One of the necessities you must have when you move into a new place is air filters. Even if you’ve been told they’ve been changed recently. Do it anyway. Having clean air filters will help your furnace and air conditioning system run more efficiently. It only takes a few minutes to do, so there’s really no excuse to not do it.

On average, you should change out your filters every 90 days. Lessen that time if you have pets so you can take care of any allergens.

What Type of Air Filter Should I Use?

There are tons of air filter brands on the market. Let me save you some time standing in the aisles, by telling you about 3M Filtrete filters. They are incredible at trapping dust, pollen, and mold spores to keep your family safe and healthy. 3M Filtrete air filters can be found at your local Sam’s Club or at their online store.

And they’re actually $8 off NOW through November 25th with Sam’s Club Instant Savings.

If you’re still not a Sam’s Club member, what are you waiting for? Sign up here and enjoy all the savings and perks designated for members ONLY!

Want to Win a $100 Gift Card to Sam’s Club?

The Costs Of a New Car

The Cost of a New Car

From the moment you pass your driving test, you’re super excited to purchase and finally drive your very own car. Buying a car is one of those fun activities we get to do as adults and it is a great way to gain some independence in the world. However, when we do buy a car, there are lots of costs we need to consider. Before you take the leap in the coming year, here is a list of some of the things to consider in the cost of a new car.

The Car Itself

Of course, the main cost of a car is the car itself, and depending on the model you decide to go for it can be a reasonable or a hefty affair. Most of the time for first-time drivers you will be looking at a 1.2 or 1.4L engine so this shouldn’t be too costly. But it is still something to be aware of and you should definitely take the time to research the car you want to buy and make sure it will be the best deal for you.

The Insurance

Car insurance is likely the thing which you are least looking forward to when it comes to buying a car, and the prices for this can easily trump what you pay for the vehicle itself. When you are looking at cars make sure to make a test insurance policy to see what sort of price you are looking at. You can use https://cheapautoinsurance.co/ to get the best deal you can and just make sure you are able to afford the monthly payments when they come.

The Maintenance

One of the things which most people don’t think about when they buy a car is how expensive the repairs would be, and this can be something which trips a lot of people up. To make sure you don’t overpay for parts, try to avoid buying from companies such as Audi right away because their parts are incredibly expensive to replace. Stick to a cheaper brand for now and save up for another model when you are ready.

Any Additions

A new color? Tinted windows? A stereo system? All of these little things will add up and you need to make sure that modifications to a cheap or an old car are worth doing before you go ahead. When it comes to adding things to your car you need to make sure it is worth spending the money if you aren’t keeping this car for too long.

Fuel

The biggest every day cost you will have as a motorist is fuel, and every day the fuel costs are rising which can put a strain on us as we live our lives. The good news is that we can choose certain types of fuel to better suit our cars, and certain fuel stations such as the ones at Costco have better grade fuel which will allow you to drive further for your buck. Make sure to try and choose a fairly fuel-efficient car because this will save you a ton of money in the future.

The Cost of a New Car

Being an adult means weighing all the options for any purchase, especially big ones like the cost of a new car. Depending upon your budget, you may be better off keeping the car you have for a while longer and start a “new car” fund so you can pay as much as you can in cash.

Here’s How You Can Stay Safe When Getting Fit Outdoors

Here's How You Can Stay Safe When Getting Fit Outdoors

When you’re getting or keeping fit, doing it outdoors can bring you a lot of pleasure. It’s great to enjoy everything the outdoors has to offer, from open spaces to fresh air, sunshine and beautiful views. If you prefer to work out outdoors, instead of at a gym, there are lots of things you can do. From running and cycling to hiking and canoeing, there are so many outdoor activities that help you keep fit and let you enjoy nature too. But if you’re going to get fit outdoors, you also need to be careful. There are several ways you could get hurt or end up in danger.

Be Wary Around Roads

Sometimes, you might go somewhere quiet and remote to get some exercise. However, you can often find yourself using roads or alongside them. Whether you’re cycling, walking or even riding a horse, you always need to be careful around roads and vehicles. As an injury attorney will tell you, traffic accidents don’t just involve vehicles. Pedestrians, cyclists and others can also get hurt in incidents on the road. It’s important to be safe when using roads or even when you’re alongside them on cycle paths and sidewalks. Be especially careful at night, and make sure you’re visible.

how to stay safe while getting fit outdoors

Stay Safe at Night

A lot of women are wary of the idea of exercising outdoors at night, especially when on their own. But if you do decide that you want to go for an evening jog or cycle home from work in the winter, it’s important to keep yourself safe. Sometimes you might not plan to be out in the dark, but you can lose track of time or get delayed. If you’re exercising outdoors at night, you need to be visible around roads in particular. It’s also a good idea to avoid using headphones and to have a light, such as a headlamp or a flashlight so that you can see and hear what’s around you. Have your phone with you too.

Respect Nature

If you’re going to go out into nature to get physically active, you need to be respectful of the environment. This starts with considering the ways that it could harm you and taking it seriously. For example, there are various plants and parasites that could hurt you. You should watch out for poisonous plants and for bugs like ticks, which can give you Lyme disease and other infections. It’s also important to prepare for the terrain and conditions.

Keep In Touch

Sometimes, getting fit outdoors means being away from “civilization”. If you’re planning to go hiking or take a kayaking trip, you need to make sure you’re not completely out of touch with the rest of the world. Start by making sure you tell someone where you’re going, especially if you plan to go alone. It’s also a good idea to have some form of communication that you can use if you don’t have a phone signal.

Getting Fit Outdoors

Getting fit outdoors can be a lot of fun, but you need to stay safe. Prepare yourself properly and you can enjoy your time outdoors.

Are you ready to start your fitness journey? Fill out this quick form and I’ll get back to you to see how I can help you reach your goals!
