Be Prepared: Emergency Care for Children

Be Prepared_ Emergency Care for Children

You take your eyes off your children for one second, they could be doing anything. Unfortunately, toddlers are not predictable. They don’t know any better. Even if you tell them don’t they will still try their luck when you turn your back. It seems sometimes when children grow up they choose to do things that force them to learn the hard way. It’s not a case of if, but when this will happen and cause them harm. As parents, we can’t shrug and say what will be will be. It’s our responsibility to prepare for the time when we need to guard them against themselves. Here’s how to always be prepared for the things they shouldn’t be doing.

Learn the Basics

Every single parent should be learning the basics of immediate urgent care. This means going to classes that teach you CPR.  If something bad happens, you need to know what to look for if your child isn’t breathing. Seek out classes or a company that can direct you to accredited experts in the urgent emergency care field.

In the class, you’ll learn how to spot changing tone in someone’s complexion when they’re having trouble breathing and getting a fresh supply of oxygen. Most importantly, you’ll learn how to deal with this situation. They’ll train you on physically resuscitating a small child, using the correct techniques for the right situation. The more you are comfortable with the process of urgent care, the less panic will set in if and when the time comes.

On a Hiking Trip

Taking children on trips through the mountains is great for a number of reasons. For one they learn about their own country, the landscape and how beautiful nature can be. Secondly, the see a different way of life. Being in the wilderness away from the concrete jungles lets little ones see things differently.

Aside from learning emergency care, you need to be sure that you’re never too far from real professional care. Check out the air evac locations nearby, and see if they could fly to your destination if you need them. If your child slips and falls, breaking a leg or hitting their head on rocks while crossing a river, you can call them to quickly come to your exact location and airlift your loved one to the nearest hospital.

Just knowing that you’re never too far from doctors and surgeons that could save your life, puts your mind at ease while you go camping and hiking with your children.

Emergency Care for Children

Being a parent is such an amazing experience that comes with a lot of responsibility. We need to be prepared for just about any scenario that could happen. Every parent should learn basic emergency care for children such as CPR in case something horrible involving respiration happens. It’s always better to be safe and prepared so you can enjoy making amazing family memories.

Feeling Frazzled? Bring Back Balance to Your Life

Feeling Frazzled? Restore Your Mental Health and Bring Back Balance to Your Life

Life can get busy, stressful and chaotic for all of us at times. Pressures from work, family problems, relationship issues, changes in health or stress can all throw out the balance. Unfortunately, there’s not much we can do about lots of these kinds of things, we have to take the good with the bad and deal with everything as best we can. One way you can look after your mental health and prevent burnout during difficult times is to take time to relax and bring balance back to your life.

Putting your feet up can feel like a bit of a luxury, something many of us feel guilty about when there are so many things to get done in our day to day lives. However it’s not just a treat, it’s absolutely essential to good health. Here are some of the ways you can relax and reduce stress during difficult times.

Practice Hygge at Home

Hygge is a Danish word which relates to feelings of comfort and coziness. It’s about living in the moment, acknowledging it as special. This practice can help us to ground ourselves as we’re no longer living (and stressing about) in the past or the future.

You can practice Hygge at home by doing activities that make you feel happy, comfortable and cozy. Run a hot bath and clear your mind while you soak. Apply face and hair masks and when you get out, slather your skin in a rich moisturizer. Make a cup of tea or hot chocolate and enjoy it in silence, savoring every tip.

Buy an adult coloring book and color in a picture, lots of therapists recommend these as they’re relaxing and can help you to unwind. You could meditate or ask a partner to give you a massage. These might not seem like significant things, but after a stressful day, they help you to unwind and get those all-important happy hormones released from your brain.

Go on Vacation

If things are really rough, a break away from it all might be just what the doctor ordered. A week or two spent lying on a beach, swimming in the sea and topping up your tan can do wonders for your mental health. If you’re suffering from anxiety, depression or other mental health issues then how about something like an iboga spiritual retreat? These are healing centers which can help you to work through your issues and restore the balance in life in a beautiful location.

Go to a Spa

Whether you go alone or with a friend or partner, a spa is a fantastic way to spend the day when you’re feeling a little frazzled. Pampering treatments from mud baths to massages to manis and pedis help you to look and feel your best. You can relax in the jacuzzi and steam room, have a swim in the pool and enjoy a light lunch. You’re bound to come home at the end of the day feeling so much better, it’s a nice treat that doesn’t involve vices like drinking alcohol or binge eating food to cheer you up!

Sustainable Living Doesn’t Have To Be Difficult

Sustainable living doesn't have to be difficult

Sustainable living is something more and more people are getting interested in today and for good reason! It’s not something difficult to get into, and there’s a lot of little changes you can make that really have an impact on the world around you.

So once you’ve got a good grip on your health, make sure you turn your attention to the lifestyle that you’ve chosen, and what you can do to make it ten times better than it was before with only a little effort! And here’s a few methods to prove you won’t be cutting out more time than you can manage to keep your sustainable lifestyle going.

It’s not a bad idea to have a potted plant in each room, to help clean up the air and give your house a greener ambiance.

Start with the House

There are a lot of energy black holes in your household, and when you aim to live a little more sustainably, you’re going to have to target the four walls around you first. And one of the best ways to do that is just to be a little extra vigilant… So let’s start with some simple ideas.

Always go around and unplug appliances you’re not using, and switch off any plug sockets at the wall. Try to keep the thermostat in your house lower than usual when it’s a bit nippy outside, and instead start investing in the wool trade to keep you warmer. Make sure you’re not wasting any water in the pipes in the bathroom, especially if they’re creaking, and be sure to visit if you need some help here. Professionals make sure there are no gaps in the system that any heat, water, or gas can leak out of, saving your money and reducing your carbon footprint!

Grow a Good Vegetable Garden

When you’ve got homegrown produce to stir into your meals, you’re going to feel healthier and more productive than ever. And you’re not going to waste any money on overpriced items from your local store! We’re in the summer right now, which means there’s still some time to work on your vegetable patch if it seems like it’s a little lacking. And don’t worry, there’s always farmer’s markets you can head out to in the meantime; the supermarket should be the last resort for your greens.

Even with the winter coming up sooner than the spring, you’re going to have plenty of chances to grow some good vegetables. Onions, broad beans, peas, and asparagus are all plants which thrive in winter temperatures, and are also quite easy to cultivate! Just make sure you know what you’re doing before you start out, and go out and buy some gardening magazines whilst you’re at it!

Sustainable living is very attainable when you look into it, and it can be quite a fun lifestyle to lead whilst you’re at it. Use tips like these to start well.

Using The Internet To Make Your Life Easier

Using The Internet To Make Your Life Easier

For the first few years of its life, the internet was shown as a powerful tool. They said it would change the lives of people across the world. Promising to offer loads of solutions to life’s little problems, a lot of people have been left relatively untouched by this piece of technology. In fact, 11% of Americans don’t use the internet.  While not everyone loves it, the internet can definitely make life easier. For those who are internet lovers, can you imagine a world without Google? I mean, everything is worth a Google, right?

It’s worth a Google!

Learning Google

Have you ever seen the movie “The Campaign”? One of my favorite quotes from that movie is, “you can Google it. It’s worth a Google”. If you’re new to the process, it will always start with a little bit of learning. Google may seem simple from the surface but can be surprisingly complex when you’re looking for something specific. The hardest part of this is learning how to word your searches, as search engines won’t read like a human, and you’ll have to make sure that the way you’re asking questions works with them. To achieve this goal, it will be worth doing some reading. You may have to do some trial and error to get the best results.

Assessing Options

It’s unlikely that you’ll only find one option when you’re searching for something on the web, with the number of websites available being astronomical. This doesn’t always make life easier, though, as you’ll now have some comparisons to make. Thankfully, a lot of this work will have been done for you, and you will only need to search for a blog post or two. This will take a little bit of extra searching but will help you to get to grips with your browser’s tab system.

Finding Trust

As you look around more and more, you will quickly find recurring websites coming up in your searches. When it comes to information-based options, building some trust with these sorts of platforms can make your life a lot easier. Subscribe to them. You will be updated as they release more content which falls in line with your interests, while also saving their name in your emails so that you don’t have to find them again in the future. It feels good when you’re able to trust a publication.

Use The Services

Since it first launched, the internet has caused a huge boom in the service industry. Nowadays, entire professional roles can be handled by systems found online, with things like a payroll check template or accounting application being able to make important parts of your life easier to manage. As a big part of this, it’s always worth reading reviews of the services you use. While this is part of the assessment process, it is worth making sure that you do it as much as possible, as it can push you in a better direction.

It’s Worth a Google!

It’s so easy to take the internet for granted because, for some people, they don’t know a life before it existed. As technology evolves every day, it’s good to know how to use it to your advantage. And remember: when in doubt, “it’s worth a Google!”.

Health, Fitness, and Second Chances

health, fitness, and second chances

It occurred to me this morning, that I have been talking about my story and journey all over social media, but have neglected to share here on my blog. My health and wellness have undergone a tremendous makeover in the last 2 years. Two years ago, I took a chance on myself. I was exhausted. I had 18-month-old twins. I ate so poorly. I could eat an entire package of Oreos in 2 sittings. The amount of sugar that I was consuming was ridiculous. I wasn’t overweight. In fact, I was in my 120s but I was also breastfeeding my twins so that burned a huge amount of calories.

Looking for Coaching and Accountability?? Check out my services!

I was fed up with being grumpy and sleepy. I decided to try something I had never done before. I worked out in the past. I was an athlete, but I hadn’t done anything in so long. I was 32 and determined to make my 30s freaking awesome. I had been skeptical that anything would get me in the shape I wanted to be in, but I gave it a shot.

I began fueling my body and working out consistently 5 days a week for 30 minutes a day. I went all in and WOW! I couldn’t believe that at 32, I was in the BEST shape of my life.

Once I became pregnant with my youngest, I said that I would have a fit and healthy pregnancy. I had already been sharing my journey for a year at that point, so I wanted to continue to do that. Well, my fitness became non-existent and I felt like such a phony. I disappeared and hid. When I decided after she was born to get back to my journey, I let fear take over. Who would take me seriously? I just “fell off the wagon”. How can I help other women if I was so inconsistent the last 10 months?

Second Chances

Fear is a funny thing. I began to work with a mindset coach shortly after M was born. She helped me learn to change my thought processes and mindset. Today, I refuse to let fear take control. I KNOW I can help other women because I’ve been there.

I know what it’s like to be unhappy with my appearance, to be self-conscious, to have low self-esteem, to be anxious. I know what it’s like to feel alone in my journey like no one understands how I feel.

I also know what it’s like to find other women who understand me and support me. I know what it’s like to feel encouraged and loved on and appreciated. I know what it’s like to help women discover that they too can take control of their health, fitness, and mind.

I know the steps it takes to accomplish all of these things. That’s why I decided to become a health and fitness coach as well as accountability coach. I know everyone has different goals and I know that if you work hard, you can accomplish anything!

How to Make Healthy Living More Convenient

how to make healthy living more convenient

Sometimes it feels as though you don’t get a moment to yourself. Between work, a hectic social schedule, a thorough exercise regime, and hobbies, it can often feel like you are literally non-stop from morning to night. So, it’s not surprising that the majority of us feel that our health routines tend to fall by the wayside. After all, they tend to demand a whole lot more time than we feel we are able to give. But it’s important that we do prioritize our overall health and wellbeing. We only have one body and we seriously need to take care of it. The key is convenience! Check out ways to make healthy living more convenient.

Medical Consultations

Let’s start with medical consultations. We are all bound to need to consult a medical professional at some point or another in our lives. Now, many of us put these appointments off. We contend that we can’t get the time off work, don’t want to miss a social occasion, or simply don’t have the time to visit a doctor. But this can all be extremely detrimental to our overall health and wellbeing.

It’s also likely to negatively impact you in the long run, as you will allow problems to worsen and find yourself having to take time off of everything in order to recover. The good news is that you don’t necessarily have to meet up with a doctor in person to resolve your problems. Sure, there are certain situations where you will have to meet up for a formal diagnosis. But there are plenty of times when you could make use of telemedicine. Telemedicine involves contacting your doctor over the phone. It means that you don’t have to sit in the waiting room of the doctor’s practice for extended periods of time, and can pick up test results or raise issues or concerns on an immediate basis.

If you find that you have a health complaint, and your problem has been acknowledged and identified, your doctor is likely to write out a prescription, which is a formal form of instruction to a pharmacist detailing what medicine or equipment you should be provided with in order to become better. However, the majority of the time, you will find yourself spending a whole lot of time visiting the doctor to be granted a prescription and waiting around in the pharmacy for your treatment to be packed up for you. There are ways to reduce this wait!

Repeat Prescriptions

If you have a regular form of medication that you will have to take for the foreseeable future or an extended period of time, you should consider requesting a repeat prescription from your doctor. This means that your prescription will automatically be renewed and reissued when your current medication runs out. This removes the need to book in for an appointment, as the doctor will write your prescription without having to consult you.

Delivered Prescriptions

If you don’t have the time to wait around a pharmacy while your prescription is sourced and packaged, you should consider having your prescription delivered. This service is available for various products, you can even have Finasteride prescription medicine delivered. This means that your tablets can be delivered to you in the comfort of your own home, hassle-free!

We need all sorts of vitamins for our bodies to function well. There are thirteen essential vitamins alone. Vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, and vitamin K are relatively easy to remember. However, vitamin B1 (otherwise known as “thiamine”), vitamin B2 (commonly referred to as “riboflavin”), and vitamin B3 (or “niacin”) tend to be trickier to remember, seeing as they go by different names. Then there’s pantothenic acid (B5), biotin (B7), vitamin B6, cyanocobalamin (B12), and folate (otherwise referred to as folic acid or B9). It’s not all too surprising that the majority of us struggle to remember all of these. But there are ways to simplify the incorporation of each into our lifestyle.

Vitamin Tablets

The easiest way to incorporate all of these vitamins into your life without having to dedicate extended periods of time to researching and sourcing them is to simply take vitamin tablets. These will be readily available at your local health store or pharmacy and you can simply knock them back with a glass of water each morning. Most are available in bulk, meaning you need only visit once in a while to top up your supplies.

it’s important that we do prioritize our overall health and wellbeing. We only have one body and we seriously need to take care of it. The key is convenience! Check out ways to make healthy living more convenient

A Habitual Balanced Diet

Now, vitamin tablets are better than nothing. But the best way to get all of your vitamins is generally to consume them as part of a balanced diet. Now, you may feel that you don’t have the time to start coming up with meal plans that will tick all of the boxes when it comes to meeting your body’s needs. However, once you’ve made a plan, you can stick to it indefinitely. Eating well and consuming all of the vitamins you need through meals will quickly become a habit and something that you do without a second thought. At the end of the day, you have to eat to survive, so you might as well make it something healthy!

Make Healthy Living More Convenient

These are just a few different ways that you can make healthy living more convenient. Sure, you may be an extremely busy individual with little spare time on your hands. But there’s no excuse to neglect your health and wellbeing when there are viable ways to streamline the process!

Alternatives To Your Usual Health Remedies

alternatives to your usual health remedies

You’ve got the usual drugstore remedies that you might go for. You might have a cupboard stocked full of them, you might have rituals that you swear by. You might have Googled every home remedy possible, and guzzled more lemon and honey hot water than you can imagine. But all of these are old school methods. They’re methods that we all swear by, but they’re not the future. The future is the new alternatives that we’re going to give to you today. Because when trying to remedy something to do with your health, you shouldn’t always jump to the medicine cabinet. You should explore the different health remedy alternatives that are most likely going to be better for your health, such as the options we’re going to talk about below.

Pain Remedies

There’s not one person who is reading this who likes pain. It gets in the way of everything. From that dull ache pain of a toothache to the throbbing pain of a bad back. Once you feel it, you’ll instantly reach for some form of pain relief, usually paracetamol or ibuprofen. But, that’s just filling your body with added chemicals that it doesn’t particularly need when you can easily remedy the pain with other things. Take that throbbing neck or a backache as an example. We’ll all have to deal with it at some point in our lives, but have you ever considered using marijuana to relieve the pain. Used alone, it has minimal to no side effects and is an excellent muscle relaxant. More and more countries are making it legal for both medicinal and recreational purposes, and we know that it would be great for you to relieve some of the pain you’re having. Alternatively, you could try a few sessions of acupuncture or sports massage to see if that relieves the problem.

Stress Remedies

As with pain, stress is something that we definitely all suffer with. Depending on your lifestyle and your career, you might suffer with it more than others. But, rather than letting it build up and up, or reaching for a glass of wine at the end of every bad day, think of remedies that will work long term. Yoga is one that we want you to try. If used with relaxing music, it really does help you let the troubles of your day melt away. Even if you use it at the start of the day as a way to get yourself up and awake, it’ll reduce your stress levels for the rest of the day!

Alternatives To Your Usual Health Remedies

Illness Remedies

Nobody likes to be ill, and whilst illness might not come around as often as the other two, it still does have a way of raining on your parade. So, step one is to sweat it out. Have a really hot bath or shower, and allow the steam to cleanse your pores somewhat. Step two, try herbal teas to help boost your immune system and reduce the symptoms of your illness. Step three, stay in bed! People make the mistake of trying to do far too much when ill, but it only backfires and leaves you worse than you were, to begin with!

How to Stay Motivated on Your Health Journey

How to Stay Motivated on Your Health Journey

We are what we eat, which is why it’s important to clean up our diet and be healthy. The only problem is it’s hard. Anyone who has tried to stick to a plan for longer than a month understands the dynamic. You start off strong and slowly start to fade as temptation takes hold once again. After all, you’ve been good, so don’t you deserve a break. Unfortunately, a hiccup in a routine encourages bad habits to return, and then you’re back at square one. The key is to stay driven and motivated, and here are the tips which can help you stay motivated on your health journey.

Don’t Go Cold Turkey

Going cold turkey is a myth. There are no health benefits to cutting out carbs or fats or anything else you think are unhealthy. A legitimate diet includes all of these things, but it does it in moderation. Eliminating them from your diet is only going to cause hunger pains, especially if you try to go carbohydrate-free. Carbs digest quicker and satiate the stomach, so without them, it’s will feel empty. The trick is to take it in stages and cut down without cutting them out altogether. For example, switch from white to brown. Brown pasta, rice, and bread are all much better than their pale cousins.

How to Stay Motivated on Your Health Journey

Choose Foods You Like

Too many people start a diet and pick ingredients they hate or have never tried before. This is a rookie mistake because the brain will associate the diet with being bland, and then it will crave foods it thinks are tasty. Usually, these are junk foods. So, be sure to choose the stuff which you know you can turn into a delicious meal. A perfect illustration is vegetables. Forget the things you don’t like, such as mushrooms, and focus on tomatoes and onions and peppers. Then, come up with clever ways to make them more delicious. With veggies, you can cook up a storm with a low-calorie stir fry.

I prefer the term “treat” but give yourself a cheat day. This doesn’t mean that you binge all day on carbs and sugar. But if you want a piece of cake, have the dang piece of cake! If you’re looking for a healthier way to sweeten up things, consider raw honey. When you buy bulk raw honey, you always have an option to sweeten the dullest of dishes. Or even make your favorite sweets and replace the sugar with honey or pure maple syrup.  There is nothing wrong with cheating in moderation. Think of a balanced, 80/20 lifestyle.

Forget Your Ego

Dieters think they have to go long periods without eating, but that’s ego. It’s your brain wanting to do it the “proper” way instead of choosing the path of least resistance. People who can’t go a couple of hours with eating are going to struggle to stay motivated, which is why you should check your ego at the door. For those that love eating, it’s about frequent, small meals as the regularity of them should stop your gut from rumbling.

Stay Motivated on Your Health Journey

The best way to stay motivated on your health journey is to get an accountability coach. This is someone who will hold you accountable for your goals and help you be successful.

If you’re looking for an accountability coach, I’d love to work with you! Fill out this quick form and let’s see if we will make a great team.

Small and Simple Ways to Take Care of Your Mental Health

Small and Simple Ways to Take Care of Your Mental Health

If you are on social media, then you can look around and see that we are making waves in how much mental health is being destigmatized. It can impact your health much like a physical illness can, so it is great that more and more people are talking about it. It is becoming much less of a taboo subject, which is why we can all talk about how we feel much more openly. Let’s keep this conversation going because it’s so important that you take care of your mental health.

With that in mind, it is important to remember to seek out help for depression or any other issue that you have with your mental health; professionals are there for a reason. But there are plenty of things that you can do at home to take care of your mental health, that is small things, but they can have a pretty big impact. It would be great to hear what you think.

Mental Health Time Out

The older we get, the more we understand our body and our mind, and we’ll know when we need to take a mental health day. Taking time out when you need one is going to help you to be happier, more productive, and just generally better. So don’t think of it as being selfish when you need to take a mental health day or time out. It is pretty much preventative medicine and can help your overall health, not just your mental health when you’re able to unwind and reduce the stress and overwhelm in your life.

Unwind Before Bed

Getting a good night’s sleep is just what you need to feel better and be healthier. So why do so many of us scroll through our phones late into the night, or sit and watch Netflix in bed? All of this screen time isn’t conducive to sleeping well. Write down notes, meditate, stretch, take a bath, or make yourself a warm milky drink. This will help you to sleep better, as well as break down the day and move on before bed.

Small and Simple Ways to Take Care of Your Mental Health

Practice Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a bit of a buzzword of late. But in reality, it really can make a difference to your health, and in particular, your mental health. Mindfulness is all about living in the moment and being present. Take breakfast time, for example. Do you eat your breakfast while checking your emails and watching the morning news? This is too much chaos to start your day. Practicing mindfulness is just doing one thing at a time. Eat your breakfast and be present; simply eating your breakfast and being with your thoughts. Doing this a couple of times a day can really have an impact.

Limit Refined Sugar

It is true that reducing the sugar that you eat isn’t going to cure your depression or anxiety, for example. But what it will do is to help keep your blood sugar more stable, meaning that you will feel more energized and won’t want to sleep all day long. Cutting down can help your skin too, as well as weight, so it can be a positive move all around

Take Care of Your Mental Health

It’s so vital that you take care of your mental health. This should be non-negotiable. Whether you struggle with depression and anxiety, or you consider yourself a healthy and happy person, your mental health is vital! Check out this post on the stigma of mental illness here to get a better understanding of the topic.

Four Ways To Find Enrichment In Life

Four Ways To Find Enrichment In Life

Your entire life, you walk through it knowing that education will open the right doors financially and in your career. A good job will open the right doors for personal fulfillment and help to secure your bank account. A good exercise routine will allow you to feel healthy and well within yourself. Everything that you do for yourself contributes to the experiences that you have in your life, but what if you concentrated less on the things that you have, and more on the feelings that you get when you’re doing more for your life and not just for you? What if it wasn’t difficult to find enrichment in life?

Being at peace with yourself starts when you stop looking for next great thing. If you find that you’re continuing to utter phrases that start with, ‘when this happens, I’ll be happy’, then you’re not truly happy yet. Only you can draw the line at enough and the thing is, enough means different things to different people. Finding personal enrichment is going to take you far more than trying hard to have it all. You can only be truly enriched and happy when you start to feel more at peace with yourself. Some people find this in education, some people find this in volunteer work and charity, such as Cane Bay Cares with Kirk Chewning. Others find it in the ability to look out to the endless ocean and know that there are things out there bigger than themselves. There are four steps that you can take to start enriching your life, but first, you have to ask yourself what you want from life in the first place.

If you can think about yourself achieving the things that you want to achieve, you’re far more likely to get there. You have to really dive deep into this vision and figure out what you see for yourself in your life, reach down and feel every moment of what you want to have in your life. Create mood boards to physically visualize what you want and be open to things changing. Dreams change as we do.

Define What You Want

You need to think about why you want the things that you want and how you plan to achieve them. Once you figure out your ‘why’, it’s the catalyst to keep you moving.

You should always have faith in yourself when you have dreams to achieve, so you should always act as if your wishes are already being fulfilled. Acting on faith can be everything that you need to continue in your pursuit of happiness.

Four Ways To Find Enrichment In Life

No one thinks about being grateful as a way of being, but it can be. The more you focus on how grateful you are for what you have, the better you can attract the things that you want for your life.

Find Enrichment in Your Life

Enriching yourself takes more than just the good education and the great career. Accepting yourself, aiming for happiness and being at peace with your life takes more than the ‘stuff’ you can have. Aim high, achieve and feel fulfilled for it.

It’s much easier to find enrichment in your life than you think. Knowing exactly what you want and having the vision and faith that you can achieve it is so important. You should always be grateful for what you have. Start each day with a grateful heart by filling out a gratitude journal. It also serves as a great reference when you are feeling down.

Another important thing is to improve your mindset! Check out these 5 tips on improving your mindset today!
