Top Swaps for a Healthier Lifestyle

Photo by manu mangalassery from Pexels

Living a healthier lifestyle doesn’t mean you have to miss out on all your favorite things. There are several things you can swap in all aspects of your life. Check out these awesome ideas!

Swap white pasta for whole wheat pasta

If pasta forms a staple part of your diet, don’t worry, you don’t have to get rid of it altogether. Whole wheat pasta provides more fiber and contains more vitamin E, B vitamins and antioxidants than white pasta so you could make a switch to that or go one further and make ‘courgetti‘ (spiralized courgette) or ‘boodles‘ (pasta made from butternut squash) to boost your vegetable intake.

Swap white potatoes for sweet potatoes

It’s an easy, cheap and tasty meal, but there’s a way to make baked potatoes healthier. Have a sweet potato instead! You can baked them, roast them, or smash them. Either way, they’re delicious and offer a ton of nutrients!

Swap Watching Your Children Play For Playing With Them

Don’t just stand there. Get moving. Get your heart rate up and not only will you be getting some exercise but you’ll be spending quality time with your kids and making memories.

Swap Screen Time For Play Time

Whether you have kids or not, most of us are spending too much time in front of screens. Ditch those for ‘play time’ – which can be whatever you want it to be. If you do have kids, then get out to the park, play football with them, whatever it is that will get them outside.

For yourself this is important too, but if you must watch Netflix, why not get a mini trampoline or an exercise bike and work-out while you’re watching it. The TV is a great distraction, and before you know it, you will have done half an hour.

Swap Cigarettes for E-Cigarettes (for now)

E-cigarettes aren’t entirely risk-free, but experts estimate that vaping is at least 95% less harmful than smoking cigarettes. E-cigarette vapor contains some potentially dangerous chemicals also found in tobacco smoke, but at much lower levels. You can even get some great flavors too and avoid the traditional smell of smoking. Have a look at Daniel Fung of Watertown CT for more options. This may be a good transition to quitting altogether.

Swap white rice for brown or ‘cauli-rice.’

Brown rice is better for you because it has more fiber than white rice, but Cauliflower rice is another excellent option if you want to reduce calorie intake and up your veg count, too.

Swap fruit juice for the fruit itself

Next time you go for a glass of orange juice, it might be worth a re-think. Fruit juice is high in natural sugar, and it’s missing the fiber that the fruit provides. Drinking a glass of orange juice means the fruit’s sugars are more readily available and more easily absorbed by the body than just eating the fruit itself.

Make the swap for a healthier lifestyle

When you’re wanting to start living a healthier lifestyle, it can be overwhelming. Instead of quitting everything cold turkey, start making small swaps here and there. It will add up and your body will thank you!

Goal Setting To Get Where You Want To Be In Business

Goal Setting To Get Where You Want To Be In Business

Goal Setting To Get Where You Want To Be In Business

Many of life’s most important goals revolve around money. So if you run a business, it’s essential to make sure that it’s working for you by setting measurable goals that are both achievable and relevant.

Getting to where you want to be as a person and as a business owner can be a challenge. So in this post, we’re going to take a look at the business of goal setting so that you can grow your company and achieve lasting success.

Be Prepared To Change Course

There’s a famous motivational diagram that entrepreneurs like to refer to when they find themselves in difficult circumstances. It’s an image of a person trying to make a journey from point A to B. When an entrepreneur sets up a business, whether it’s a home office-based company or something more extravagant, they have an idea in their heads about where they are and where they want to end up. It’s a straight line from where they are now to where they want to be. That’s what’s depicted in the first image. The second image shows what happens in reality: a person traveling from A to B usually has to climb over a bunch of obstacles and go through several trials to get to where they want to go. It’s never a straight line, but one that is continually changing, based on circumstance and market conditions.

The moral of the story is this: you need to be prepared to change your goals at a moment’s notice, depending on the opportunities that come your way. Sticking rigidly to a particular set of ideas will lead you to financial trouble.

Stick With Your Principles

Many companies aspire to go paperless, but according to more than 20% of firms are increasing the amount of paper they use for their day to day operations. While all companies say that they are trying to cut down on the amount of paper that they use, many don’t live up to their ideals.

The problem with this is twofold: firstly, you undermine your mission, which can be a demotivating – something that you don’t want if you work for yourself. And secondly, customers may view you as hypocritical, and it could hurt your brand – again, that’s not something that you want. Sticking with your principles gives your firm an air of authenticity and helps to build trust.

Set A Timeline For Task Completion

If you’re trying to start something from scratch, it can be a challenge to motivate yourself to get everything done. One of the best strategies is to set a timeline for task completion. Set regular milestones to ensure that you have both short-term and long-term goals to work toward.

Setting allotted times for each task ensures that you’re not spending too much time on one particular project. It frees you up for the other essential work that you need to do. According to people setting up companies need to track the progress of their goals through time. That way, they know where to focus more of their attention.

Goal Setting for Business

Goal setting is vital for both life and business. If you don’t set these measurable goals, how will you ever know when you’ve reached them?

3 Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your Time

Image via Pixabay

Time is seriously valuable. In fact, it’s one of the most valuable of all “resources” that exist in the entire world. If you don’t have much money today, you may be able to earn and save up a significant amount tomorrow. But you only ever have 24 hours in a day, and who knows how much time over the course of your entire life.

People don’t usually like to think of their own mortality – but the harsh reality is that none of us is on this earth forever, and so it’s a really good idea to use our time as wisely as possible, rather than allowing any of it to go to waste.

Easier said than done, right? Well, here are a few tips for getting the most out of your time.

Do Your Research & Planning in Advance

Whatever it is you’re doing in life – whether you’re trying to run your own business, or are trying to get fit, or get your house in order – it’s a really good idea to do your research and planning in advance.

A lot of time often gets wasted, because we don’t do our due diligence before involving ourselves in different pastimes, or making certain commitments.

This applies even in terms of buying consumer goods. By looking up reviews on a site such as TriStar products review, for example, you are less likely to find yourself shopping around endlessly for the one product that does what you want it to, and having to return goods every couple of days.

Likewise, if you’re going on vacation, planning out your itinerary in advance allows you to spend all your time at the destination actually having adventures, instead of sitting around and racking your brains trying to figure out what to do.

Listen to Your Own Conscience

Our consciences need to be developed with a bit of practice, but all of us have some kind of innate sense of when we are acting “well” or “badly.”
When you’re trying to figure out if you’re using your time as well as you possibly can, it often pays to listen to your own conscience. How do you “feel” deep down, while you’re doing what you’re doing?

If a significant part of yourself feels like you’re wasting your time – you probably are. Try doing things that make you feel proud, instead.

Reduce Distraction

We all tend to follow the path of least resistance, over the course of our day-to-day lives. At least, to a pretty significant degree.

If you make distraction and procrastination extremely easy, like keeping your phone nearby so you can constantly scroll Instagram, expect to spend more of your time procrastinating.

Instead, try to make it significantly harder to actually engage in distracting activities, and significantly easier to engage in positive and productive activity. In the Internet age, using web blockers is often a good way of starting to reduce distraction.

If you’re struggling to manage your time so you can accomplish your goals, life coaching may be for you. Check out the ways we can work together.

Starting A New Sport? 3 Questions To Ask Yourself

Image from: [CC0 Licence]

Often, taking up a new sport is something that people consider for their children, but less frequently for themselves. However, playing or engaging with a sport is an excellent choice for everyone – regardless of age, fitness level or experience, sports offer benefits for your health, fitness, and well-being.

Check out these three questions that you should ask yourself before starting up something new.

“What physical activities constitute a ‘sport’?”

In order to choose a sport, you will first need to decide which activities constitute an actual sport; however, as have highlighted in the past, determining what is and isn’t a sport can be something of a contentious issue.

For the most part, a sport needs to have a competitive element. Many people find that competing against others really helps to improve their fitness overall; the idea of ‘winning’ is one that most of us find attractive, and are willing to work hard to achieve.

It’s therefore best to choose your sport based on two criteria: significant physical activity is required, and there must be an element of competition, either against another individual (as with tennis, squash, and so on) or against another team (for example, soccer, hockey, netball, and so on).

“Do I need to join a club?”

Most sports can be engaged with solo; for example, if you wish to give tennis a try, you can buy a racquet and hit balls against a wall without the need to join a club. However, while doing so would technically be tennis, the chances of you achieving the full workout tennis can provide – and benefiting from the critical competitive element – are slim to none.

As a result, it’s usually best to look for sports clubs in your local area if you wish to get the most from your sporting experience. If there are no established clubs for your chosen sport, you could always consider starting your own by following the tips on and similar sources.

“How can I ensure I’m safe?”

It’s an unfortunate fact that every sport carries a degree of risk and contact sports are all the more likely to cause injuries. So it’s important to be realistic: injuries do happen, but the soft tissue trauma or more severe spinal cord issues as discussed on and similar sites. By acknowledging that injuries can, and do, occur, you can take every preventative step possible to ensure you are safe and protected at all times.

If you’re not sure how to protect yourself when engaging with a new sport, it’s usually best to ask for professional advice. Almost every sport has some form of recommended protection – from helmets for cyclists to kinesiology tape to support ligaments when playing soccer – so speaking to an instructor or experienced player of that sport can help ensure you can take the best possible precautions.

Starting a New Sport?

When you’re starting a new sport, it’s always good to be prepared. Congratulate yourself on getting active and enjoy the process of trying something new.

Tips for Recovery From Surgery

When it comes to life, things don’t always go the way we planned and sometimes we end up in situations which we would rather avoid. Having an operation for example is something which a lot of us don’t look forward to, however sometimes we can’t avoid going under the knife for one reason it another. Today we are taking a look at some of the tips and tricks which you can use if you are recovering from surgery this year.

Eat Fresh Foods

The first handy tip which you should definitely take into account during your recovery is to eat as much healthy food as you possibly can. Healthy foods such as fruit and vegetables and lean proteins are essential for the body at any time, but especially so when we are trying to recover from an operation. When the body is a little more vulnerable than usual it needs all of these nutrients in order for the body to recover and become strong. Protein will repair muscles and cells and other vitamins can also help in the recovery process.

Organize Your Medicine

If you aren’t used to taking pills every day, this will be one of the harder things you need to get used to after an operation. A lot of the time after an operation you’ll be given items to help thicken the blood to heal wounds and other things to help in the healing process. Make sure you get yourself a pill dispenser to help you organise and keep pills in the right place for you to eat every day. It will make a world of difference and will make your life much easier.

Move Around

When you have been under the knife there is a huge temptation to stay in bed and not move for days and even weeks due to the pain of it all, but you actually aren’t doing yourself any favours by doing this. It is worth moving around gently and trying to build up your muscles once more after and operation and this can help you heal quicker. Also, the actor moving will stimulate blood flow around the body and this will help to bring oxygen to the cells as well as carry away bacteria and dead cell tissue from the area. By moving around you’ll be helping your body to recover much more efficiently.

Listen to Your Doctor

After an operation, your doctor will give you some instructions for what you need to do to stay healthy and recover. This will likely include recovery time as well as what you can and can’t do during the period of recovery. If you want to heal correctly and avoid another surgery you HAVE to listen to your doctor. They will give you advice for a reason and if they say you can’t safely drive a car for 3 weeks, you’ll have to avoid getting behind the wheel until that time is up and you have been checked over. Always listen to your doctor.

Recovering From Surgery

Recovering from surgery can be a long process. But following doctors orders and properly caring for your body can improve the recovery process.

Wanna Be a Fitness Model?

The health and fitness industry is booming. If you wish to become a successful model this is a great sector to get involved in. More emphasis is being placed on living well than ever before, especially when you consider the issue of rising obesity. From health magazines, gym advertisements, fitness programs, and marketing nutritional products; there are lots of instances whereby sports models will be required. Even the standard lifestyle magazines feature extensive health and fitness sections. If you want to get into the fitness industry, there are a few things to keep in mind.

What are They Looking for?

Fitness modeling is not as strict as catwalk modeling and thank God for that. You don’t have to be 5’10” like Cindy Crawford! (cue the Cher Horowitz hair flip). You should portray strength and health. It is likely that you are going to be encouraging people to invest in a product or begin a particular fitness regime. Your image should inspire them to want to do this.

You’ll need strength and endurance for fitness and sports modeling. It’s not all about standing around. Regularly working out and eating well can increase both. Zen macrobiotics or other nutritional supplements may be of interest to you.

Nevertheless, nine times out of ten the shoots you participate in are going to require physical activity. Therefore, you need to be ready to do anything from running, to lifting weights, to climbing, to playing any type of sport. And remember, you will need to do this again, and again, and again. The photographer won’t rest until he or she has a good selection of photographs to choose from and is confident they have found ‘the one’.

Only Choose a Credible Agency

You should also join a credible agency. It’s not just about finding one with a good reputation; you need to find an agency that is going to be right for you as a fitness model. Make sure they have experience in sports modeling specifically and that a good chunk of their clientele is involved in this type of modeling.

Once you’re confident, read customer reviews and assess the level of experience the agency has. Be certain they are constantly updating their website and actively looking for potential jobs as well. Taking five minutes to discover what others have had to say about the agency is worth its weight in gold. If they have a bad reputation this is something you will instantly be able to pick up on.

Is Fitness Modeling for You?

Get excited knowing that this industry is flourishing. Competition is going to be fierce and thus you need to do everything you can to make yourself stand out from the crowd. A winning portfolio is essential. Diversity is the name of the game when it comes to this. Moreover, don’t miss out on any opportunity to network and make stellar contacts in the industry.

Work It Girl!

Sports’ modeling is definitely a good area to get involved in today. The health and fitness industry is flourishing and there are no signs of it slowing down.

Keeping Your Body and Mind Young

Keeping Your Mind and Body Young

Youth is something that we fail to cherish when we’ve got it, but long for when it’s gone. In our societies, youth is something that everyone seems to be striving for. We want to keep our skin soft and supple. We want our muscles to be tight and toned. We hope to avoid wrinkles and grey hairs, and we do anything that we can to prevent stretch marks, cellulite and varicose veins, which could age us.

We spend so much money in search of everlasting youth, and most of it is wasted. Unfortunately, there isn’t a magic cream to keep your skin line free and soft, and there’s little that you can really do to avoid grey hairs, other than cover them up. Aging is something that happens to the best of us, and there is no avoiding it. Even if you are lucky enough – and luck plays a big part! – To look young into middle age, your mind could give you away. You might find that you start to forget things, that you can’t remember names or details and you start doing odd things like putting your gloves in the freezer, much sooner than you might expect. We blame things like baby brain when we are having children, or tiredness when we’re working long hours, but the truth is that it is a natural part of getting older.

In truth, the best way to grow old will always be gracefully. Plastic surgery and other drastic anti-aging techniques will always be tempting to those of us that value youth, and all those high-end, exceptionally expensive creams that promise to take ten years off your face, will often catch your eye. But, it’s important to remember that there is nothing wrong with getting older. It’s something we should all be aiming for. With age, comes wisdom and many people find that if they just let themselves, they love their bodies much more than they did in their youth.

But, aging gracefully isn’t the same as letting everything go. Looking after your body and your mind can ensure that you are able to live a long and healthy life. That your body and brain won’t let you down, and that you can truly love yourself, knowing that you are doing your best to give yourself the best chance of an active and healthy future. Here are some of the very best things that you can do for your body and mind, to keep you looking and feeling at your best, even as you get older.

Love Your Body

Source –

Loving your body is easier said than done. But, as you get older, you often find that you think back to how your body used to look with regret. We regret that we ever thought we were fat and that we didn’t appreciate what we had. When you are 30, you’ll think of how great you looked when you were 20. When you are 40, you’ll believe that your body was amazing when it was 30. By 50, you might well have learned to love what you’ve got instead of thinking about what you had.

Your body is going to age and change. But, it’s the only one that you will ever have. Learning to love yourself, and appreciate everything that your body does for you, helps you to enjoy it. This can be a massive boost to your confidence, and help you to feel more youthful at any age.

Loving your body will help you to treat it well, and exercise is the very best way to do this. You don’t need to be a long distance runner or a champion swimmer to exercise enough to take care of your body. Nor do you need to be in the gym twice a day. You just need to move.

Cardio exercise is great for your muscles, your stamina, your circulation and your stamina. It can also help to boost your mental health and confidence while helping you to achieve or maintain a healthy weight. All of which will help to keep your mind and body young. Try to fit in at least three thirty minute cardio workouts a week for a healthy lifestyle and to decrease your risk of heart attack, stroke, diabetes and other health conditions as you age.

Cardio exercise is anything that gets your blood pumping and your heart beating faster. This includes things like jogging, swimming and brisk walking.

Strength training can also be beneficial, as it builds and tones muscles, increases your flexibility, improves your heart health and also helps you to manage your weight. But, that doesn’t mean that you need to hit the weights. Pilates and other matt exercises can use your own body weight for strength training.

Eat Well

Source –

Your diet is as important as exercise when it comes to living healthily. And, believe it or not, can help to keep your mind healthy as well as your body. Try to eat a well-balanced diet, with plenty of fruits and vegetables, as well as oily fish and complex carbs. Healthy meals don’t have to be boring though. Healthy meals can be tasty, filling and comforting. They can be loaded with nutrients and minerals, but still, be varied and exciting. A big part of this is enjoying food and allowing yourself to experiment with new flavours and new meals. Try things, cook as much as you can, and let yourself love food without overindulging.

Exercise Your Mind

Your body isn’t the only thing that needs a workout if you want to stay young. You also need to exercise your mind, and it’s never too early to start. When you get older, living in aged care can help to exercise your brain by keeping you around other people and avoiding isolation. But, before then, you might find that you don’t use your mind as often as you should.

When you are just going through the motions of life, it’s easy to stop thinking about things. This can lead to your mind prematurely aging and even some serious health conditions.

Exercising your mind however doesn’t need to be difficult. You just need to use it more. Puzzles, books, doing things with your opposite hand and having interesting conversations with different people can be a great help. But, generally, it’s just about being open to learning new things. Those of us that never stop learning, often feel more alert and find it easier to focus. Let your children teach you things, read non-fiction books and watch documentaries. Visit museums and take up new hobbies.

Source –

Laughter isn’t just great medicine. It’s also a useful anti-aging tool. Laughing boosts the blood to your face, which can help you to look younger and research shows that we are more attractive when we smile. It can also help to reduce your stress levels, improve your mental health and reduce your blood pressure.

So, spend time with people that make you laugh, doing things that you love and you may find that you feel happier, more alert, that you sleep better and that you feel more at peace. You may feel and look younger, and your health could be improved.

Enjoy Your Friends and Family

Our friends and family make us laugh. They take care of us. They are there for us when we need them and when we are struggling with our health. They boost our confidence and help us to find solutions to our problems. They can be a great source of comfort and support to us, both now and in the future.

But, only if we make time for them, and take the time to offer them the same support. Give your friends your time, not just when it’s needed. Relationships take work. You need to maintain them if you want them to stick around.

Find Your Passions

Like laughter and friendships, having hobbies that you love and interests that you feel passion for can help to keep you young and fill your life with joy, but often as we get older, we stop making time for those passions. Start making time for your hobbies, or look for new ones, and you may find that they help to sustain you.

Remember to Live

When we’re so worried about eating well, exercising and looking after our brains, it can be all too easy to forget to live. When there’s so much to worry about and do, it’s easy to get stressed out and forget to have fun. Don’t be so strict with your diet and exercise that you don’t leave room for fun, or for chocolate. Don’t work so hard that you never have time for holidays, time off and fun days out.

Spend Time Outdoors

So many of us spend most of our time inside. We work in offices. We spend our free time at home surfing the net. We drive everywhere, and we never get as much fresh air as we need to. Getting outdoors more can help to boost your health and your mood, as well as your posture and circulation. Just being outside will mean that you are around people and more fresh air can help you to get a good night’s sleep.

Forever Young!

They often say that “youth is wasted on the young”. The fact is age is just a number and there are multiple things you can do to continue feeling young and vibrant.

If you’re ready to take charge of your life and starting living it, you may consider working with a life coach. Check out how I can help you start living your life today!

3 Areas For Fitness Centers To Monitor

The fitness industry is experiencing a boom of activities. More and more people want to get fit, and as a result, gyms have become a popular space for those who wish to maintain their strength and look after their body. Therefore, gym owners can enjoy a positive and profitable business.

With more and more gym-goers, there is a lot of potential for growth. However, gym-goers have high expectations of your premises and your services. If you are interested in opening your own gym studio, you need to make sure that you can provide your clients with high-quality services and care. Indeed, the discerning public can be quick to complain or even to consider legal actions if they feel that your gym fail to fulfill its promises.

There are 3 main areas of concern that you need to tackle as effectively and quickly as possible as a gym owner to keep your business and your customers safe:

  1. Reduce the risk of accidental injuries
  2. Ensure that your personnel know how to deal with a demanding audience
  3. Provide your clients with the best safety solutions

Personal training at the gym

The gym is accident-prone

Every sports enthusiast knows that their favorite hobby can lead to painful injuries. However, while some injuries can be avoided through better training and care, others can be traced back to your gym equipment. If your gym is the cause of the accident, you might have to face a challenging injury claim from a disgruntled client.

Keeping your equipment in top condition is detrimental to the health of your gym members. A faulty machine can lead to muscle pain or even tear. Additionally, keeping the premises clean makes a big difference. Remember, though, to be careful to avoid the risk of falls when mopping or vacuuming in the presence of clients.

Your personal coach fails to motivate

More and more gym goers want to hire the services of a fitness coach to achieve the best possible results. A coach helps clients stay motivated, but he or she can teach them to push their body further. But, finding a coach who understands your clients can be challenging. Sometimes, a hard-working personal trainer can give the wrong impression when trying to push clients to get out of their comfort zone. Some people could feel bullied or shamed by their trainer, and, as a result, are more likely to complain to the management.

Your members were robbed

Unfortunately, health clubs can be insecure. Indeed, as video cameras aren’t allowed, owners can struggle to keep the locker rooms safe. Additionally, high-tech solutions can be too expensive to be implemented in a local gym. Clients whose belongings have been stolen can file a complaint, or even quit the club. However, you can reduce risk by training your staff to be more vigilant of suspicious activities. Real-time reporting and alarm warnings can track locker activities . It can also support club owners in keeping the environment secure for all.

Can Your Fitness Center Improve?

Is your gym meeting your members’ expectations? This is a question you need to ask yourself when you’re in the process of starting your fitness business. Accidents, thefts, and bullying behaviors can affect the safety of your clients as well as the reputation of your club.
